The UCDA currently represents more than 4400 dealer members who are estimated to account for over 60% of the dealers registered in Ontario who actively participate in the Used Vehicle Industry.

Switch Out

Switch Out is a national program designed to remove, collect and manage mercury-containing convenience lighting switches and anti-lock braking system (ABS) sensor modules in end-of-life vehicles before they are flattened, shredded and recycled into new steel.
This award-winning program is funded and supported by Canada’s steel and automotive industries through the Canadian Steel Producers Association (CSPA) and Canadian Vehicle Manufacturers’ Association (CVMA), and currently works in partnership with the Automotive Recyclers of Canada (ARC) and the Canadian Association of Recycling Industries (CARI) to deliver Switch Out to all provinces and territories in Canada. All recyclers and dismantlers in Canada are encouraged to join. This collaborative effort will assist the steel and automotive industries in meeting the new federal notice to prepare and implement pollution prevention plans in respect of mercury releases from end-of-life vehicles processed by steel mills.

Recycling Council of Ontario

The RCO was created to help Ontario’s struggling recycling operators cooperatively market the newspapers, glass, and metal cans, which they were collecting from community recycling depots and door-to-door drives. The Recycling Council of Ontario believes that society must minimize its impact on the environment by eliminating waste. To that end, our mission is to inform and educate all members of society about the generation of waste, the avoidance of waste, the more efficient use of resources and the benefits and/or consequences of these activities.

Ontario Tire Stewardship

Ontario Tire Stewardship (OTS) is an Industry Funding Organization (IFO) incorporated under OntarioÕs Waste Diversion Act, to implement and operate the Used Tires Program. This province-wide scrap tire recycling program for On-road and Off-road tires supplied into the Ontario market will divert scrap tires away from burning and landfilling to 3Rs (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle) processing and uses.

Ontario electronics Stewardship

Ontario Electronic Stewardship (OES) is a not-for-profit organization formed by leading retail, information technology and consumer electronic companies to implement the Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Program Plan under the Waste Diversion Act. The plan requires brand owners, first importers, franchisors, and assemblers to pay fees for electrical and electronic equipment (EEE) supplied to Ontario. Collected fees will be used by OES to operate the WEEE program.

The Ontario Automotive Recyclers Association has been the voice of the auto recycling industry in Ontario since 1992. OARA has kept Auto Recyclers informed and involved with input and information into current industry trends and government legislative initiatives that affect auto recyclers.
